Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation in Kemah

Luxury vinyl plank is a rigid, water-resistant floor that stands up to wet feet, pets and busy kitchens. It only performs when the floor beneath it is dry and flat, so we take moisture readings and check flatness before we recommend a product or set an install date.

A Durable Floor That Depends on What Sits Beneath It

Luxury vinyl plank is built in layers: a clear wear layer on top, a printed wood or stone image, and a rigid core of stone-plastic composite or a softer foamed vinyl. Most planks click together and float over an underlayment, which means the floor moves as one piece. The plank itself shrugs off spills. The seams, the edges and the subfloor are where trouble starts.

It is a good choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and open living areas where real wood would struggle with water. If you would rather have the warmth of solid wood in a dry room, our hardwood flooring page covers that option. If you are replacing a vinyl floor that already failed, we look for the reason first. Peaking seams, hollow spots and musty smells usually trace back to slab moisture or dips in the subfloor, and a new plank laid over the same problem fails the same way.

Many homes around Kemah sit on concrete slabs near the water, where vapor rising through the concrete is common. We test for it on every job instead of assuming, so you get the right barrier and a floor that stays put.

What Your Vinyl Plank Installation Includes

Moisture readings

We test the slab or wood subfloor in several spots and show you the numbers. Those readings decide which underlayment and vapor barrier your floor needs.

Flatness check and leveling

We run a straightedge across the room to find high and low spots. High ridges are ground down and low areas are filled with self-leveling compound, so the click joints sit tight and do not flex underfoot.

Removal of the old floor

Carpet, pad, old vinyl, laminate or tile comes up and leaves your home with us. We scrape adhesive and remove tack strip so nothing telegraphs through the new plank.

Underlayment matched to the subfloor

Some planks come with attached padding and some need a separate layer. We choose based on the readings, not on habit.

Trim, transitions and door clearance

We leave the proper expansion gap at the walls, cover it with baseboard or quarter round, set transitions at doorways and undercut jambs so the planks slide beneath them cleanly.

Cleanup and care notes

We vacuum, wipe down the new floor and walk you through simple care, including which cleaners to skip.

Signs Luxury Vinyl Plank May Be the Right Next Floor

  • Seams lifting or separating

Planks that peak along a seam or open gaps at the ends often point to moisture or an uneven subfloor. We find which one before replacing anything.

  • Hollow or clicking spots

A floor that sounds hollow or clicks when you step usually sits over a low area. Leveling that spot is part of the fix.

  • Carpet that stays damp or smells musty

In a kitchen, entry or laundry room, carpet holds moisture. A rigid plank is far easier to keep clean and dry.

  • Cracked tile or worn grout

If you are tired of chasing broken tiles, plank can go in once we confirm the base is sound. Tile that cracks in a line can also signal slab movement, which we check.

  • Old sheet vinyl curling at the edges

Curling usually means the adhesive has let go. A floating plank floor avoids that problem when the prep is right.

How a Vinyl Plank Job Runs

  1. 1

    A phone conversation

You tell us about the rooms, the current floor and anything that has gone wrong with it. We set a time to see it in person.

  2. 2

    In-home look and diagnosis

We measure the space, take moisture readings and check flatness. You see what we found and hear our honest view on whether the subfloor needs work.

  3. 3

    A written plan

We lay out the product options, the prep needed and the scope line by line, so you know exactly what is planned before any work starts.

  4. 4

    Prep and installation

We protect adjoining rooms, remove the old floor, level where needed and lay the planks with staggered seams and proper expansion gaps. Planks rest in your home beforehand as the manufacturer recommends.

  5. 5

    Final walkthrough

We install trim and transitions, clean up and walk the floor with you, room by room.

What Moves the Price of Vinyl Plank

Two rooms of the same size can price very differently once we see what is underneath. We give you a written, line-item estimate after the moisture and flatness checks, so the number reflects your actual floor. If prep is needed, you will see it listed on its own line.

Square footage and layout
Open rectangles go quickly. Closets, angled walls, islands and many doorways take more cutting and more material.
What comes up first
Carpet lifts easily. Glued vinyl or tile set in mortar takes more labor and disposal.
Subfloor condition
Grinding, self-leveling compound or a vapor barrier add cost, and they are often the difference between a floor that lasts and one that separates.
Plank choice
Wear layer thickness, core type and plank length all affect material cost. We explain where a thicker wear layer is worth it and where it is not.
Stairs and trim
Stair treads and nosings are priced separately. Our stair flooring page explains that work in detail.

Questions About Luxury Vinyl Plank

Something not covered here? (346) 220-0973

Is luxury vinyl plank really waterproof?

The plank itself will not swell from water, which is why it works well in kitchens and baths. Water can still get between seams or under the edges and sit on the subfloor. That is why we pay attention to the vapor barrier and the perimeter. A spill wiped up promptly is no concern.

Can you install it over my existing tile?

Sometimes. If the tile is stuck down solidly, sits flat and the grout lines are shallow, plank can float over it. Loose or cracked tile, or tile that raises the floor too high at doors and cabinets, should come up first. We check and tell you which applies.

How does it hold up in a humid coastal house?

Well, provided the slab moisture is handled. Rigid-core planks are more stable than wood in humid air. The bigger risk is vapor coming up through the concrete, which we measure before choosing an underlayment.

How is it different from laminate?

Laminate has a wood-fiber core with a photographic surface, so it can swell if water gets in. Vinyl plank has a plastic or stone-composite core that does not. Laminate can feel firmer and cost less in dry rooms. Our laminate flooring page covers it in more depth.

Do I need to leave the house during installation?

Usually not. Click-lock plank has no strong adhesive smell, and you can walk on it as soon as a room is finished. We ask that small items and breakables be cleared beforehand and we work room by room.
